Reserve August 30, 2014 in your calendar! It’s the 44th. Lighthouse Country Fall Fair and it’s a wonderful event that celebrates the seaside, our community and the great people who live here. As a member of the Bow-Horne Community Club, I’m thrilled to be part of planning and running this great day. I hope to see you there!
This fabulous country-style fair pits kids and adults in friendly competition to win trophies, ribbons and prizes in gardening produce, hobbies, crafts and cooking. Participants start early registering to show their wares at the Fair in May – competition categories include opportunities for people of all skills and ages to win awards. Divided into age categories starting at under 5 years, up to 13 to 16 years, junior participants will display cupcakes to beans, cookies, freak vegetables, cherry tomatoes, pumpkins, peas, packed lunches and themed vegetable creatures. Arts and Crafts range from crayon art, sticker art, Christmas tree decorations, jewellery, photography, driftwood sculptures, quilts, rugs and knitting to name just a few.
Adults get to join the fun as well, bringing their gardening achievements in a wide range of vegetable and flower categories from beets to leeks to swiss chard and peppers and roses to gladiolus. There are cooking creations including baking, salsa, chutney, antipasto, pickles, beer, and wine and of course, needlecraft, stained glass, scrapbooking, woodwork, photography, art and knitting.
Numerous supplementary competitions include a race for the best Wheelbarrow Garden, Chocolate Cake, Seaside Shanty, recycled material Garden Art, Scarecrow and the biggest and best Sunflower!
All this takes place amidst continuous great music on the many stages situated around the indoor/outdoor fairground, a fabulous food fair, local artisan booths and a not-to-be-missed amusement park for the kids – find the fun at 240 Lions Way only 10 minutes from Qualicum.
Take a trip back in time — tour the display tables, guess the winners, enjoy the children’s delight in celebrating their creations, dance, eat and have the kind of fun only a true country fair can offer!
